Six Ways to Relieve Menstruation Cramps

It’s common to feel discomfort around your abdomen, lower back, and thighs when you have your period. Some women also tend to experience nausea, headaches, and diarrhea as well. Here are some tips to help you get a fast relief:

1. Heat Treatment: Applying a heating pad or hot water bottle to your abdomen works wonders for relieving menstrual cramps, as it tends to relax your muscles.

2. Drink More Water: Drinking more water can help ease bloating. Get in the habit of drinking 6 to 8 glasses of water per day, especially during your period. Sipping teas such as chamomile or ginger tea can also help to soothe the pain.

3. Proper Diet: You may be craving sugary, or salty foods when you have your period, but these foods aren’t good. Shift to anti-inflammatory foods like cherries, blueberries, squash, tomatoes and eat more calcium-rich beans, almonds, and dark leafy greens. These foods contain compounds that combat inflammation.

4. Avoid Caffeine: Avoid caffeine when you have your period. Caffeine comes in many forms including coffee, soda, chocolate, and energy drinks. As a substitute, try smoothies loaded with antioxidant-rich greens, berries, and protein powder.

5. Exercise: Research suggests exercise is effective at reducing menstrual pain. Exercises such as walking and yoga can be beneficial.

6. Massage: Massaging encourages blood flow. So, massage your abdomen with essential oils to relieve you from menstrual cramps.
